So, who is behind the Pink Potato Club?

The short answer is, me!

Katie Wakefield, from Grimsby, famous for it's fishing boats, fish and chips, The Dock Tower and Grimsby Town Football Club, the Mighty Mariners.

Once upon a time I wanted to run away with the circus, and almost did, to look after all of the weird and wonderful costumes. But, fate had other ideas for me and i got a job working as a wardrobe supervisor for the shows on the cruise ships, sailing through the caribbean, Central America, south east asia and europe.

Let's just say the fishing boats were a bit too rough for me, so I didn't fancy that!

My inner nomad wasn't satisfied with just that as my nose for travel took me all around Australia working on farms where I learned how to stuff animals and indonesia too, working as an art teacher, craft leader, stylist and fashion guru with my own clothing brand.

Fast forward 7 years and the bright lights of London drew me like moth to flame. But, I wasn't chasing fame, I just wanted to see me name in a programme or two. So the West End it was! And what a wonderful 7 years it turned out to be. I washed Brian Conley's socks, ironed David Hasselhoff's Y-Fronts and quick-changed Tina Turner's costume on stage, to name drop just a few!

In the middle of all that, the world came to a standstill and I needed to do something while the theatres remained closed, I helped to home school my nephew during lockdown and then subsequently got a job in a nursery. I even managed to obtain a qualification in childcare whilst there.

I suppose that's where the idea for the Pink Potato Club was born.

And, although I returned to the West End when theatres opened again, whilst working 6 days a week I started to get the ball rolling on what has now turned into a full time business. Yes, that's right, I put my big girl pants on and took a big step into the big bad world of business. Scary, right?

So, where am I now then?

I live in Enfield, North London and the Pink Potato Club is only just getting started here after 3 good years building lifelong relationships and memories across East London, from Wanstead to Leytonstone to Walthamstow and a few bits and bobs in between.

so here's to 2026, a year full of new  stories, new crafts, new exciting workshops for both grown ups and potatoes and making new friends!
